supercallifragilisticexpiaBODACIOUS!
Not as prim as Mary Poppins…but proper, eh?
Can you imagine sitting at this in the morning?
Sitting, not standing and leaning over the bathroom sink, but sitting to don your mascara ? It might take some extra seconds, but my hunch is this more mindful posture would give back generously. And to frame yourself with bodacious beauty…how nourishing and unfettering might that be?
We have declared numerous times that we do not do custom work. But the following picture arrived in my email and the cabriole legs had me.

She arrived at the spa workshop and had a facial scrub sanding.
And a mask application tinted primer application.
And then red enamel paint..and gold brush…and replaced mirrors…and freshened original hardware.
And while these pictures do not do her justice (especially my husband and I reflected in the mirror!), she is a stunner. When in doubt, wear red so the quote goes. Trust me, there was never any doubt she could wear red…her owner knew best.
The Flying Fig may seem like an above-board business, but we harbor some classified stuff. This piece is a secret weapon before her owner dashes out the door!

We Interrupt This Furniture Business…
You can quite literally be minding your own business…and well, interruptions opportunities arise. As was the case this past week. Frankie called me Tuesday…that scratching noise we heard yesterday…you’re not going to believe it. Well, I’m a believin’ it.
At The Fig, we have an ambitious to-do list. It did not include adopting a Mama Cat & her babies. But, when opportunities arise…

Me Oh, My Oh
Burning Questions
To personalize the cobbler’s children have no shoes, my own house projects have definitely had back burner status. Last week, the paint brushes were pulled out in our home, and the den and fireplace were given their due. Or their overdue, to be more precise. For years we had bemoaned how the brick fireplace sucked the light out of our northside den. And while it was scary to put that paint-laden brush on brick, the only after-question was why did we wait so long to do this?
Benjamin Moore’s Ballet White on walls, Clay Beige on fireplace
The recent painting frenzy caused me to ponder…
Can the cobbler’s children have shoes? Yes. An emphatic yes. (But the how is not so easy or decided.)
And why, oh why, can it take so long to address things that take away light and life for us?
Excuse me while I go do a little shoe shopping and wield a paintbrush,
june
Fraternal Twins
Last fall we received an invitation to come look in my barn and see what you can find from a sweet lady. After we pinched ourselves, we went. These side tables came from the same gene pool (a.k.a. the same old barn)
They will be up for adoption soon.
Cherry Tart & Butter Rum…paint colors and/or a nice afternoon snack.
A Cinderella Story
before after
Much like Cinderella, she wore tattered rags when I met her. Relegated to a thrift store, she was overlooked and dirty. She moved up a notch when she took up temporary residence in my garage. And here is where we digress from the fairy tale as we could not find a magic wand to flick. But after a beaucoup of hours of sanding and priming and painting and waxing, oh my, she could take your breath away. Literally.
The reaction to this finished piece provided Frankie and me with some hard-to-beat memories and encouragement. My eighty-year-old mother saying you will never do another piece like this one in an almost reverent tone. The beautiful, pure spirit of the goth-clad teenage girl who stood spellbound when she opened its doors. The belle-of-the-ball moment when she debuted at The Shopping Spree. Magical. Literally.
And a lesson also came from this piece.
Real beauty does not take. Real beauty gives.
p.s. Cinderella is currently giving and living happily ever after in a prince-of-a-home.
